Iga Swiatek Parts Ways With Coach Wim Fissette Following Shock Miami Open Exit

Posted : 24 March 2026

Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has announced an immediate split from her coach, Wim Fissette. the decision follows a stunning second-round defeat at the Miami Open at the hands of fellow Pole Magda Linette. This early exit was particularly historic, as it snapped Swiatek’s incredible 74-tournament streak of winning her opening match after receiving a first-round bye.

The partnership with Fissette began in October 2024 and reached its pinnacle in July 2025 when Swiatek captured her maiden Wimbledon title. Under his tutelage, she also secured WTA titles in Cincinnati and Seoul. However, the 2026 season has proven difficult for the 24-year-old star. She has failed to progress past the quarter-finals in any of her four tournament appearances this year, leading to a drop to third in the world rankings.

Swiatek took to social media on Monday to express her feelings regarding the recent slump and the subsequent coaching change. She admitted to feeling a sense of "disappointment, bitterness, and responsibility" for her recent performances on the court. The Polish star explained that while she has learned important lessons during their tenure, she has decided to take a different path to rediscover her championship form.

Fissette, who has previously coached icons like Naomi Osaka and Kim Clijsters, offered a graceful farewell following the announcement. He acknowledged that while both parties had higher ambitions for their collaboration, they shared significant milestones, most notably the triumph on the grass of SW19. Fissette noted that the professional journey they shared provided valuable lessons for both of them despite the recent lack of momentum.

The search for a new coach comes at a critical juncture as the tour prepares to shift toward the clay-court season, where Swiatek has historically been most dominant. Having previously found immense success with Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek is now looking for a leader who can help her regain her tactical edge. The tennis world will be watching closely to see who the former World Number 1 appoints to lead her back to the top of the standings.
