Great Britain, Germany and Spain Reach Davis Cup Final 8

Great Britain booked their place in the 2026 Davis Cup Final 8 after defeating Ecuador in London, while Alexander Zverev guided Germany through with a win over Croatia. Spain also secured qualification after completing a 3-0 victory over Chile.

Great Britain sealed the tie with a 4-0 overall victory at the Copper Box Arena. Toby Samuel and Arthur Fery had given the hosts a 2-0 advantage in Saturday's singles before Henry Patten and Neal Skupski completed the decisive point with a 6-3, 6-4 doubles win over Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo. Patten and Skupski, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 respectively in doubles, produced a controlled performance against Ecuador's experienced pairing. A single break was enough to give Britain the opening set, while another break in the ninth game of the second set put them within touching distance of qualification.

Harry Wendelken then completed Britain's clean sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Angel Veliz in the final dead rubber. The result sends Britain to the Final 8 for the first time since 2023.

In Halle, newly crowned US Open champion Alexander Zverev continued his strong form by defeating Croatia's Dino Prizmic 6-2, 6-4. His victory gave Germany an unassailable 3-1 lead and secured their place in the quarterfinal stage.

Zverev broke Prizmic three times and did not face a break point during the 77-minute match. The world No. 2 had already defeated Matej Dodig in straight sets on Saturday, while Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz added Germany's crucial doubles point.

Germany will now look to win their first Davis Cup title since 1993 when they compete in Bologna later this year. Zverev said playing the competition at home in front of German supporters had been an important experience for the team.

Spain also reached the Final 8 after defeating Chile 3-0 in Santiago. Debutant Rafael Jodar and Daniel Merida won the singles matches before Jaume Munar and Pedro Martinez completed the tie with a 6-0, 6-3 doubles victory over Tomas Barrios Vera and Alejandro Tabilo.

The Final 8 will be held in Bologna from November 24 to 29. Italy, the defending champion and host, had already secured its place, while Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic and South Korea make up the remaining field.
