Governor Diri Top 16 Table Tennis Championship Gains Boost From Commissioner Emelah

Posted : 07 November 2025

The Commissioner for Education, Bayelsa State, Dr. Gentle Emelah, has thrown his support behind the 1st Governor Diri Top-16 Table Tennis Championship, scheduled to hold from November 30 to December 1, 2025, in Yenagoa.

Emelah made this announcement during a courtesy visit on Friday from the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association, led by Chairman Amaebi Ebikpolade Stow, to his office.

He noted that endorsing the state’s biggest table tennis showpiece became imperative due to Governor Diri’s continuous investment in sports. The education commissioner emphasized that the Ministry of Education is pleased to collaborate with the organizers, particularly the Table Tennis Association, to give Bayelsa youths a platform to nurture their dreams into reality.

In his remarks, Chairman Amaebi Stow said the visit was aimed at officially inviting the commissioner to the tournament as a veteran and lover of the sport.

Stow highlighted that the championship will not only feature the top 16 ranked table tennis players in Nigeria but will also include a two-day veterans’ competition running from November 27 to 28, 2025.

Serving also as the Technical Adviser to the Bayelsa State Government, Stow briefed Emelah on the programmes of the State Table Tennis Association and underscored the need for strong collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

On behalf of the organizers, Stow appealed for the commissioner’s support, recognizing Dr. Gentle Emelah’s contributions and passion for table tennis.
