Goodnews Aina Reaches J30 Accra Junior Tennis Final

Nigeria's Goodnews Eyinjuoluwa Aina has reached the girls' singles final of the ongoing J30 Accra Tennis Foundation Ghana Open in Accra. The Nigerian junior earned her place in the championship match after defeating Togo's Winner Gakpo in a tight three-set semifinal.

Aina won the encounter 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to continue her strong showing at the ITF World Tennis Junior Tour event. The No. 2 seed showed composure in the deciding set after Gakpo levelled the contest by taking the second set.

The result is another important milestone in Aina's developing junior career. The Ekiti-born left-handed player has now reached the final of a J30 tournament for the second time, having previously achieved the feat in Abuja earlier in 2026.

Aina's run in Accra is particularly notable given the strength of the international field. The tournament has attracted junior players from several countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, India, Cameroon, Germany, France and Italy.

Her semifinal opponent, Gakpo, also brought strong tournament form into the contest. Earlier in the Accra tournament, Gakpo reached the singles final during the opening week and won the girls' doubles title alongside Ghana's Gwendolyn Duvor Klu.

Gakpo and Duvor Klu defeated Aina and India's Sharanya Sawant 6-2, 6-1 in the girls' doubles final during the first week of the Accra event. That result gave Aina an additional test against Gakpo before their singles semifinal meeting.

Aina has also shown consistency on the J30 circuit this year. Her results in previous Accra and Abuja tournaments have included several wins over international opponents, underlining her progress as she gains more experience in junior competition.

The J30 tournament forms part of the ITF World Tennis Junior Tour, which provides young players with international match experience and opportunities to collect junior ranking points. The Accra events have therefore offered Aina valuable exposure against players from different tennis backgrounds.

Aina will now compete for the girls' singles title in Accra. Victory would provide a major boost to her junior campaign and add a J30 championship to her growing list of results on the international circuit.
