Fritz, Musetti Set Up Lyon Open Final After Semi-Final Wins

Posted : 25 October 2026

Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti will contest the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Lyon after overcoming their respective opponents, Tommy Paul and Flavio Cobolli, in Saturday’s semi-finals.

World No. 14 Fritz defeated fellow American Paul 6-3, 7-5 to reach his fifth final of the season. Meanwhile, world No. 26 Musetti battled past Italian top seed Cobolli 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to secure his place in the title match.

Fritz described his encounter with Paul, who was ranked 15th in the world, as a high-quality contest in which both players had to work hard for every point.

The American praised the standard of tennis, noting that neither player offered many easy points throughout the match. He also acknowledged that both competitors pushed each other to produce their best performances.

The victory lifted Fritz above Paul to 12th place in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals, scheduled for next month, strengthening his position in the battle for a place at the season-ending tournament.

Musetti, a former world No. 5, also showed considerable determination in his victory over Cobolli, the French Open finalist, to reach his second final of the year. Despite a challenging season, the Italian’s fighting performance secured another opportunity to compete for a title.

The final brings together two players who have both reached the top five in the world rankings during their careers. Fritz will aim to capitalise on his strong serving form, while Musetti will look to build on his resilience and recent success against his American opponent.
