Francisco Cerúndolo Reaches First ATP 500 Final After Win Over Nakashima at Queen’s Club

Posted : 20 June 2026

Seventh seed Francisco Cerúndolo battled past American Brandon Nakashima 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4 to secure his place in the Queen’s Club final on Saturday, marking a milestone achievement in his career.

The Argentine expressed his delight after the victory, calling it his first appearance in an ATP 500 final and praising his resilience throughout a tightly contested match on grass.

The opening set was closely fought, with both players trading strong service games before Nakashima edged ahead in the tiebreak. The American held his nerve to take the first set 7-5 after a high-quality exchange between the pair.

Cerúndolo responded strongly in the second set, finding greater consistency and breaking serve at 4-3 before closing out the set by winning the next two games to level the match.

In the deciding set, momentum swung repeatedly as both players fought for control. Cerúndolo struck first with a precise cross-court forehand winner to secure an early break and move ahead 3-2, but Nakashima immediately responded to break back and restore parity.

The Argentine, who previously won a grass-court title in Eastbourne in 2023, broke again at a crucial stage to lead 5-4. This time he made no mistake on serve, sealing the victory and booking his place in the final.

After the match, Cerúndolo described the encounter as extremely demanding, crediting Nakashima’s level of play and highlighting his own determination to stay focused during key moments.

He will now await the winner of the other semifinal between American eighth seed Tommy Paul and France’s Ugo Humbert as he prepares for the biggest final of his career so far.
