Former Chairman Leads Zenith Bank Team Tennis Tournament Charge in Ikoyi

The 2026 Zenith Bank Team Tennis Tournament got underway at the Ikoyi Club 1938 courts in Lagos, with former and current leaders of the club’s Tennis Section among the players setting the pace on the opening day.

Former Tennis Section Chairman, Akeem Mustafa, produced one of the standout performances, defeating the incumbent Chairman, Victor Onyenkpa, 6-3 in an entertaining encounter.

Representing Zenith Aspire Team, Mustafa battled Onyenkpa of Zenith Easy Banking Team to a 3-3 deadlock before changing his approach and pulling away to secure victory.

Azubuike Okonkwo, also representing Zenith Aspire Team, recorded another 6-3 win over Hilary Eledu of Zenith Easy Banking Team, while Kalada Kienka of Diaspora Banking Team enjoyed the biggest margin of victory, sweeping aside Emeka Azinge of Prestige Banking Team 9-0.

The Blue Group also produced contrasting encounters, with Pascal Ebhohimen edging Uzor Nwankwo 5-4 in a closely fought battle, while Thomas Ighodalo cruised to an emphatic 8-1 victory over Jide Ntephe.

The tournament has grouped players under different Zenith Bank product names, including Diaspora Banking, Prestige Banking, Scan to Pay and Zenith Easy Banking, adding a distinctive team dimension to the competition.

With several players already making strong starts, the tournament promises further competitive action as the teams continue their pursuit of honours at the Ikoyi Club 1938 courts.
