Grigor Dimitrov produced one of the most emotional moments of Wimbledon 2026 after defeating Czech teenager Jakub Mensik in the second round, a victory that helped erase the painful memories of last year's heartbreaking exit. The Bulgarian admitted the closing stages brought back memories of last year's disappointment, especially as he hoped to finish the match before the Centre Court roof was closed. Reflecting on the experience, he said it felt like déjà vu but stressed that the past must remain behind him as he embraces whatever lies ahead.

Dimitrov's reward is a third-round showdown against former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini. Whatever the outcome of that contest, Thursday's victory represented a personal milestone, ending a long battle with injury and self-doubt while restoring belief that he can still compete on one of tennis' biggest stages.
