Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the 2026 Miami Open as she continues her recovery from an illness, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) confirmed on Monday. The British No. 1 had been scheduled to begin her campaign in Miami with a second‑round appearance but will now miss the tournament entirely as she focuses on regaining full health.
The 23‑year‑old had been coping with lingering symptoms following a viral illness she contracted in recent weeks. Despite efforts to train and prepare at the Miami venue, Raducanu and her team ultimately decided it was in her best interest to withdraw rather than risk further setbacks.
Raducanu’s absence from the Miami Open means she will be unable to defend the ranking points she earned from reaching the quarter‑finals of the event last year, and as a result her WTA ranking is expected to drop when the points are removed after the tournament.
Other players, including fellow British competitors, have also withdrawn from the Miami Open due to injury or illness, prompting adjustments to the main draw and replacements from qualifiers and lucky losers.
Raducanu’s decision underscores her ongoing battle to restore consistency after several health and fitness challenges earlier in her season. The British star now looks ahead to returning to competition later in the clay‑court swing, once she has fully recovered.
