Emma Raducanu has postponed the start of her clay-court season as she continues to recover from a viral illness, her representatives have confirmed. The British number one had been scheduled to compete at the Linz Open in Austria next week but has withdrawn from the WTA 500 event to focus on a full recovery.
The 23-year-old world number 28 began feeling unwell during February’s Middle East hard-court swing. She played at Indian Wells last month but opted out of Miami, highlighting ongoing health concerns. Raducanu’s career has faced repeated interruptions due to injuries and physical setbacks since her breakthrough Grand Slam victory at the US Open as a teenage qualifier.
Last season offered signs of stability, with Raducanu completing over 50 matches for the first time in a single campaign. However, 2026 has started with familiar challenges: inconsistent results, coaching changes, and health-related disruptions. So far this year, she has competed in six tournaments, winning seven of her 14 matches. Notably, four of those victories came during her run to the Transylvania Open final, where she aimed for her first title since the 2021 US Open triumph.
Raducanu now hopes to make her clay-court return at the Madrid Open, the opening WTA 1000 event of the European clay season. Her withdrawal from Linz follows a similar situation for fellow Briton Jack Draper, who recently pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters while managing his comeback from an arm injury. With the French Open scheduled to conclude the clay swing at the end of May, Raducanu will likely use this period to focus on regaining full fitness.
