Emma Raducanu is set to make her comeback at the Strasbourg Open after being awarded a wildcard entry, using the WTA 500 event as preparation for the upcoming French Open.
The British number one has not played since her third-round defeat to Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells on 8 March. She later withdrew from the Italian Open earlier this month due to health concerns linked to a post-viral condition.
The Strasbourg tournament, which begins on Sunday, comes just one week before the start of the French Open on 24 May. Raducanu is expected to enter Roland Garros without a seeded position as her ranking continues to drop following her recent absence from competition.
The 2021 US Open champion is currently ranked 30th in the world but is set to fall further once results from ongoing tournaments in Rome and Paris are factored into the rankings.
Raducanu also received a wildcard for the Strasbourg event last year, where she impressed by defeating top-20 player Daria Kasatkina before exiting in the following round against Danielle Collins.
This season, she has won seven of her 14 matches, with her strongest run coming at the Transylvania Open, where she reached the final in February. However, she has struggled for consistency since her early exit at the Australian Open.
Raducanu previously stressed that she would only return to competition when fully fit, after her withdrawal from the Italian Open came shortly after she had spoken to the media, underlining the cautious approach to her recovery.
