Emma Raducanu has reunited with coach Andrew Richardson on a permanent basis as she prepares for the clay-court season and the upcoming French Open.
The partnership resumes nearly five years after Richardson guided Raducanu to her historic US Open triumph in 2021, when she became the first qualifier in history to win a Grand Slam singles title without dropping a set.
The pair are currently working together in Strasbourg ahead of the WTA tournament, which serves as the final preparation event before Roland Garros. Raducanu confirmed the collaboration will continue through Wimbledon and beyond as part of a long-term coaching arrangement.
Raducanu recently trained with Richardson at the Ferrer Tennis Academy in Spain, where he has served as tennis director for several years. The British number one said she was grateful to reconnect with someone who has known her for more than a decade and expressed excitement about rebuilding their successful partnership step by step.
The 23-year-old is preparing to return to competition for the first time in 10 weeks after recovering from a post-viral infection. Her last match came in March at Indian Wells, where she lost to Amanda Anisimova in the third round.
Raducanu has received a wildcard entry into the Strasbourg tournament as she aims to regain momentum ahead of the French Open. However, her time away from the tour means she has dropped to world No. 37, leaving her outside the seeded positions for Roland Garros.
Following her US Open breakthrough, Raducanu and Richardson went separate ways, with the split initially described as the conclusion of a short-term arrangement. Since then, Raducanu has worked with several coaches but has struggled to establish long-term stability within her coaching setup.
Her most recent coaching partnership ended after the Australian Open earlier this year, and the return of Richardson represents another attempt to recapture the confidence and aggressive style that defined her remarkable New York run.
The renewed partnership is viewed as an opportunity for Raducanu to rediscover the freedom and belief that made her one of tennis’ brightest young stars, while building greater consistency as she continues her career development on the WTA Tour.
