Djokovic, Swiatek Headline Wimbledon Third Round Showdowns

Posted : 04 July 2025

Wimbledon’s third-round action continues on Saturday, with tennis heavyweights Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek leading the day's schedule. Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, will face fellow Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in a much-anticipated all-Serbian clash. Meanwhile, Swiatek, the current world number one, is set to take on America’s Danielle Collins in what promises to be one of the top women's matches of the day.

Djokovic, who has not won a Grand Slam title since the 2023 US Open, has endured several near-misses, including a Grand Slam final and three semifinal exits. Still, the 38-year-old showed he remains a serious contender with a dominant second-round win over Dan Evans, finishing the match 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic expressed confidence in his form and comfort on Centre Court, calling it one of the venues where he performs best, along with Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena. With three previous wins over Kecmanovic—including at Wimbledon 2022—Djokovic is heavily favored to advance.

On the women’s side, Poland’s Iga Swiatek aims to continue her pursuit of a maiden grass-court title. Though not at her peak in recent months, her recent run to the final at the Bad Homburg Open has lifted her spirits.

She will face former Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins, who holds a recent win over Swiatek from the Italian Open in May. Swiatek acknowledged Collins' aggressive style and solid baseline game as key factors to prepare for, especially after a hard-fought three-set victory over Caty McNally in the second round.

Elsewhere, 17th seed Barbora Krejcikova will take on rising American star Emma Navarro. Krejcikova has looked vulnerable so far, needing three sets to get past both Caroline Dolehide and Alexandra Eala.

Navarro, currently ranked world number 10, sees the matchup as a major challenge but is confident in her game. She believes she has the tools to disrupt Krejcikova's rhythm and possibly cause an upset as she aims for a deep run in the tournament.
