Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka were knocked out of the 2026 US Open mixed doubles in the opening round after losing to Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten.
The top-seeded pairing made a strong start at Arthur Ashe Stadium, taking the opening set 4-1. However, Siniakova and Patten quickly responded, breaking back in the second set and taking it 4-2 to force a deciding match tiebreak.
The Czech-British duo then took control of the super tiebreak, racing to a 10-2 victory to complete the upset. Siniakova sealed the win with an ace against Djokovic, sending the star pairing out after just one match.
Siniakova and Patten entered the tournament with significant doubles credentials, having reached the event as the world's No. 1-ranked women's and men's doubles players respectively. They advanced to the quarter-finals, where they faced Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils.
The revamped US Open mixed doubles competition uses shortened sets and a 10-point match tiebreak in place of a traditional deciding set, allowing the event to be staged before the main singles tournament begins.
