Djokovic, Sabalenka Headline US Open Mixed Doubles Entry List

Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka headline the list of star pairings entered for the 2026 US Open mixed doubles tournament, with the Serbian great and the world No. 1 set to be among the leading attractions when the event begins in late August.

Despite the strong lineup, men's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz will not participate. Sinner has chosen to focus on his fitness ahead of the year's final Grand Slam and will also miss the Canadian Open, while Alcaraz continues his recovery from the wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from both the French Open and Wimbledon.

The US Open introduced major changes to its mixed doubles competition last year in an effort to attract more elite singles players. The revamped format features shorter scoring in the early rounds and schedules the tournament over two days before the start of the men's and women's singles events.

Defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori return to defend their title despite previously expressing concerns about the tournament's revised structure. The Italian duo claimed the championship last year along with the $1 million winners' prize.

At 39, Djokovic joins forces with 28-year-old Sabalenka in one of the tournament's highest-ranked partnerships. Their combined rankings guarantee them a place among the first six teams selected when entries officially close on 17 August.

US Tennis Association CEO Craig Tiley welcomed the continued involvement of the sport's biggest names, saying mixed doubles highlights tennis at its finest by bringing together the world's top male and female players in an exciting team format for fans.

The tournament will feature additional opportunities for teams to qualify. Eight pairings will receive wild cards, while two more places in the main draw will be decided through an eight-team qualifying competition scheduled for 24 August.

The mixed doubles event begins on 25 August, five days before the start of the US Open singles championships.
