Djokovic, Rybakina Named Among 12 Players for Grand Slam Advisory Council

A proposed Grand Slam Player Advisory Council has moved closer to taking shape, with Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina among 12 players expected to represent the sport’s leading stars.

Djokovic and Rybakina are joined by Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina, Iva Jovic and Maria Sakkari on the women’s side, while Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Lorenzo Musetti and Arthur Rinderknech make up the men’s group alongside Djokovic. The list was posted by Sports Illustrated journalist Jon Wertheim and subsequently confirmed to AFP by tennis sources.

The four Grand Slam tournaments announced the council in August following player protests over tournament revenue, pensions and welfare. The council is intended to provide a regular platform for players to discuss sporting matters, prize money, compensation and welfare directly with the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open organisers.

Notably absent from the proposed panel are world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff. According to Wertheim, Sinner and Alcaraz did not appear interested in joining, while Gauff is the highest-ranked woman not included.

The players had previously pushed for a larger share of Grand Slam revenues, seeking 22 per cent compared with roughly 15 per cent earlier this year. Since the campaign began, all four majors have increased their prize funds, while the new council is expected to shift the focus towards direct discussions between players and tournament organisers.
