Novak Djokovic is still recovering from the physical issues that have recently kept him out of competition, casting serious doubt over his participation in the upcoming Madrid Open.
The 38-year-old Serbian star has struggled with a right shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw from the Miami Open and miss the Monte Carlo Masters. His recent schedule has been disrupted following a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final and a defeat to Jack Draper at Indian Wells.
Djokovic has now arrived in Spain to begin preparations for the Madrid event, but he admits his condition is still not fully resolved. While he remains hopeful of competing, he has acknowledged uncertainty about his readiness.
Speaking to Spanish media, he explained that he is still managing an injury and trying to recover while reducing his match load. He also noted that the extra time away from tournaments has allowed him to rest and enjoy other sporting events.
The Madrid Open draw is scheduled for Monday, with the tournament running from April 22 to May 3. Djokovic, a three-time champion in Madrid, is targeting full fitness ahead of Roland Garros, where he will chase a record 25th Grand Slam title.
