Novak Djokovic brought an end to Cameron Norrie's impressive run at the French Open with a dominant straight-sets win, advancing to the quarter-finals. The 38-year-old Serbian, eyeing a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles title, defeated Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in a clinical display on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Norrie, ranked 81st in the world and playing in the French Open fourth round for the first time, had hoped to pull off another shock after eliminating 11th seed Daniil Medvedev in the opening round. Although he briefly led in the second set, he was unable to maintain momentum or capitalize on his opportunities against the ever-consistent Djokovic.
Reflecting on the match, Norrie admitted he was flat at times, which allowed Djokovic to dictate play with ease. The Serbian will next face Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals, a rematch of their Australian Open encounter earlier this year where Djokovic was defeated. Jack Draper’s loss later in the day to Alexander Bublik marked the end of British participation in the singles competition.
