Djokovic Eases Injury Fears After Reaching Wimbledon Fourth Round

Posted : 04 July 2026

Novak Djokovic has reassured fans that he is not dealing with a serious injury after concerns emerged during his third-round victory at Wimbledon.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion was seen repeatedly hitting his legs between points during his four-set win over Arthur Rinderknech. The unusual routine sparked speculation that the Serbian was struggling physically as he continued his pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam singles title.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic dismissed fears of a significant problem. He explained that the movements were simply a way to activate his muscles and maintain his energy levels throughout the contest.

"Nothing major," Djokovic said. "Just trying to wake my muscles up. Sometimes, for some reason, they shut down. I'm trying to lift my spirit and my energy. Sometimes it's this, sometimes it's something else. The body is feeling all right for the moment."

The seven-time Wimbledon champion has progressed steadily through the tournament. He has defeated Wu Yibing, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Arthur Rinderknech, dropping only two sets on his way to the fourth round. His latest victory also marked his 105th Wimbledon match win, equalling Roger Federer's men's singles record at the Championships.

Djokovic's next opponent will be Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin, who produced one of the biggest surprises of the third round by defeating Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca in straight sets. Safiullin's emotional victory came after an injury-hit spell that threatened his career, setting up a high-profile meeting with the Serbian.

The draw has also opened up for Djokovic after Fonseca's exit. Many had expected a rematch between the pair following the Brazilian's victory over Djokovic at Roland Garros earlier this year. Instead, the Serbian will face Safiullin, with a potential quarter-final against either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina awaiting the winner.

At 39, Djokovic continues to manage his body carefully during Grand Slam tournaments. His ability to keep matches relatively short in the opening rounds could prove crucial as he targets an eighth Wimbledon crown, which would equal Federer's tournament record, and an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam singles title.
