Novak Djokovic marked his 38th birthday with a hard-fought victory over Matteo Arnaldi, securing his place in the Geneva Open semi-finals. Earlier this year, Djokovic had suffered three consecutive losses to Arnaldi during a challenging clay-court season, including a defeat in April. However, under damp conditions, Djokovic turned the tables with a 6-4, 6-4 win, boosting his confidence ahead of the French Open.
Djokovic’s next opponent will be Cameron Norrie, who reached his first semi-final of the season after an impressive comeback against Australian Alexei Popyrin, winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Norrie showed resilience by overcoming a 5-3 deficit in the opening set, eventually taking it in a tense tiebreak before comfortably controlling the second set as Popyrin struggled to match his level.
Reflecting on his win, Norrie admitted he felt nervous but was pleased to find his rhythm despite the tough and chilly conditions. He emphasized the importance of enjoying the game more and easing the pressure he puts on himself. Facing Djokovic in the semi-finals will be a significant challenge, but Norrie remains positive and focused on continuing his strong run.
