Daria Kasatkina has joined the growing list of top tennis players ending their seasons early, revealing she has reached a breaking point both mentally and emotionally. The 28-year-old made the announcement in a heartfelt statement on social media on Monday, saying she had been pretending to be fine while struggling internally for some time.
“I’ve been far from fine for a long time, and my results show that,” Kasatkina admitted. “Fans can see it too. The truth is, I’ve hit a wall and can’t continue. I need a break — from the travel, the pressure, and the endless cycle of the tour.”
The world number 19 described the demands of the tennis calendar as “too much,” adding that she felt emotionally drained by the constant routine and competition. She also acknowledged that many other players face similar struggles in the sport.
Kasatkina, who switched her nationality to Australian earlier this year, has endured emotional stress in recent years after speaking out against the war in Ukraine and coming out as gay. She revealed that she has not seen her father in four years and faced challenges obtaining full eligibility to compete under her new nationality.
Despite her struggles, Kasatkina expressed optimism about recovery. “I know I’m strong, and I’ll get stronger by stepping away, recharging, and reenergizing,” she said. “2025 is done for me, and like me, it’s been far from fine.”
Her decision follows a growing trend among professional players calling for changes to the sport’s demanding schedule, citing the toll it takes on both physical and mental health.
