Daniil Medvedev has secured qualification for the 2026 ATP Finals after defeating Adrian Mannarino in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the Vienna Open.
The Russian produced a commanding performance on Friday, overcoming the Frenchman 6-2, 6-3 in their quarter-final meeting. The victory confirmed Medvedev’s return to the season-ending tournament in Turin, which will take place from November 15 to 22.
The world number five will compete at the ATP Finals for the seventh time, having previously qualified for six consecutive editions between 2019 and 2024 before missing last year’s tournament. He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton among the confirmed participants. Jannik Sinner has also qualified but will miss the competition through injury.
Medvedev has enjoyed a strong revival in recent months. Following his fourth-round exit at the US Open, he captured titles in Hangzhou and Almaty while also reaching the semi-finals in Shanghai and Beijing. His latest victory extended his winning run and further underlined his improved form.
The 30-year-old will now face Alcaraz for a place in the Vienna final. The Spaniard booked his semi-final spot by defeating American Tommy Paul 6-4, 7-6(2) in an entertaining quarter-final encounter.
Alcaraz delivered a composed performance, saving all five break points he faced before prevailing in the tie-break. The victory also extended his impressive unbeaten run in ATP 500 tournaments this season.
Meanwhile, Zverev continued his impressive week with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over British qualifier Arthur Fery. The German needed just 58 minutes to advance to the last four, where he will take on either Australian Alex de Minaur or Italian Matteo Berrettini.
With Medvedev now guaranteed a place in Turin and Alcaraz continuing his strong run in Vienna, their upcoming semi-final promises to be one of the tournament’s biggest matches.
