Caroline Garcia, once ranked world No. 4, has announced her decision to retire from professional tennis, with this year’s French Open marking her final appearance at Roland Garros. The 31-year-old French player made the announcement via social media, reflecting on a career that has spanned over two decades, including 15 years on the WTA Tour. She expressed a readiness to move on, saying the time had come to turn the page and embrace a new chapter in her life.
Throughout her career, Garcia amassed 11 WTA titles and earned nearly $19 million in prize money. She experienced notable success in both singles and doubles, winning the season-ending WTA Finals in 2022 and clinching two French Open doubles titles with partner Kristina Mladenovic, the most recent also in 2022. Her standout singles performance came that same year when she reached the semifinals of the US Open, and she achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 4, though she has since slipped to 145th in the world.
In her farewell message, Garcia described her relationship with tennis as emotionally intense, full of highs and lows. While acknowledging the physical toll and the shifting priorities in her life, she affirmed that she is not done just yet, with a few more tournaments ahead before officially retiring. Her swan song begins at Roland Garros, as the 2024 French Open gets underway this Sunday.
