Carlos Alcaraz has thrown down a powerful marker ahead of Wimbledon, declaring he "feels great" on grass after securing his second consecutive Queen's Club title. The world No. 2 edged past Czech player Jiri Lehecka in a tough 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 victory in Sunday’s final at the Wimbledon warm-up event. With the win, Alcaraz extended his winning streak to 18 matches, having already claimed the French Open and Rome Masters titles in his stellar run.
Alcaraz admitted that he arrived in London with low expectations, unsure of how quickly he could transition from the clay courts of Paris to the demands of grass. Remarkably, he has become the first player since Rafael Nadal in 2008 to win both Roland Garros and Queen’s Club in the same season.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, who was raised on clay courts, is now only the third Spanish man to win four grass-court titles, joining Nadal and Feliciano Lopez in that elite group. "I got used to the grass really quick, and I’m really proud about it," he said.
Beyond his technical brilliance, Alcaraz attributes his success to knowing when to switch off. After his triumph at the French Open, he partied in Ibiza and took time away from tennis to reset mentally.
Although he won’t have time for another vacation before Wimbledon starts on June 30, he plans to rest and enjoy London in preparation for defending his crown. Alcaraz believes the key turning point this year was his shocking early exit at the Miami Masters, which pushed him to recharge and rediscover his joy for the sport.
Now with five Grand Slam titles, Alcaraz enters Wimbledon as the man to beat. His rise continues to captivate tennis fans, not only for his skill but also for his refreshing humility and discipline. As his confidence on grass grows, Alcaraz is eyeing a third straight Wimbledon title — and possibly an even greater place in tennis history.
