Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that winning his first Australian Open ranks higher on his agenda than defending his French Open and US Open titles in 2026. The 22-year-old Spaniard spoke on the Spanish sports radio show El Partidazo de Cope, emphasizing that a title at Melbourne Park has become a personal priority after reaching only the quarterfinals in both 2024 and 2025.
Alcaraz, who secured the year-end world No. 1 ranking at the ATP Finals, admitted he does not yet consider himself the best player in tennis, acknowledging the many competitors capable of beating him despite his current standing.
He reflected on his quarterfinal loss to Novak Djokovic at the 2025 Australian Open, noting that the Serb, who retired injured in the semifinals, remains a formidable contender for his 25th Grand Slam and 11th Australian Open title in January.
Surpassing Djokovic’s men’s Grand Slam record remains a long-term goal for Alcaraz. After a remarkable 2025 season, including three Grand Slam finals and victories over Jannik Sinner at the French Open and US Open, Alcaraz now turns his focus to claiming his first ATP Finals title, beginning with Saturday’s semifinal against Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
