Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the semifinals of the Rotterdam Open with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over compatriot Pedro Martinez. The world number three, aiming to become the first Spaniard to win the tournament, displayed a high level of play throughout, maintaining consistent focus from start to finish.
Alcaraz's solid performance saw him break Martinez early in both sets, and he wrapped up the match in just over an hour with 29 winners, including a whipped crosscourt forehand to seal the win. He will now face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkacz.
The match marked the first professional meeting between the two Spaniards, and Alcaraz quickly showed his class, breaking Martinez's serve right from the start. The second set followed a similar pattern, with Martinez making unforced errors, including a double fault and a wild forehand, which handed Alcaraz an early advantage.
Alcaraz's ability to take control was evident in his second break in the fifth game, which featured a long rally, before completing the match with another break to secure his semifinal spot.
In other action, Stefanos Tsitsipas was knocked out by Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci, who won 6-4, 6-2 in a surprising upset. Bellucci, who had already beaten second seed Daniil Medvedev earlier in the tournament, showed impressive technical skills, particularly with his left-handed serve, flat backhands, and heavy forehands, along with well-timed drop shots.
The 23-year-old, ranked 92nd in the world, expressed his enjoyment on court and his mindset to fight for every point. Bellucci will face Alex de Minaur, who advanced to the semifinals with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Daniel Altmaier.
