Carlos Alcaraz joins Team Europe for Laver Cup 2024

Posted : 08 November 2023
Team Europe has faced defeat in the last two editions of the Laver Cup, but they're gearing up for a comeback in 2024 with the addition of world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz. The two-time Grand Slam champion is set to join Bjorn Borg's squad in their quest to regain the Laver Cup in Berlin. Alcaraz, who will also compete at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin next week, expressed his "great honor" in being selected for the Laver Cup.

Carlos Alcaraz will make his Laver Cup debut for Team Europe in Berlin in 2024, bringing significant strength to the team. Team Europe is determined to avoid a third consecutive defeat, with Team World having secured a convincing victory in Vancouver this summer. Team Europe's captain, Bjorn Borg, is "super excited" about Alcaraz's commitment to the cause, emphasizing his dedication to winning in 2024.

Borg stated, "The goal is to win, and having Carlos commit to Team Europe's cause is a thrilling start to what I anticipate will be an exceptional roster. What Carlos has achieved at such a young age is unbelievable, and he's a unique talent that will bring great energy to the team."

The 2024 Laver Cup will take place in Berlin from September 20-22, and Alcaraz, who won the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon this year, is the first confirmed player for Team Europe. Alcaraz is eager to represent Team Europe and contribute to the team's effort to reclaim the Laver Cup, stating, "I will do whatever is asked of me to win back the Cup for Team Europe."

As Alcaraz completes his 2023 season by participating in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, he brings a strong addition to Team Europe. With both teams motivated to excel in 2024 following back-to-back defeats for Team Europe, the competition promises to be fierce, and Team World captain John McEnroe is ready for the challenge, stating, "We've tasted victory twice in a row and will put up a fight to hold onto the Laver Cup."
