Carlos Alcaraz Cruises Past Tommy Paul to Reach US Open Quarterfinals

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz produced his strongest performance since returning from a wrist injury as he defeated American Tommy Paul in straight sets to reach the US Open quarterfinals. The third-seeded Spaniard won 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in just over two hours, continuing his impressive return after a lengthy absence from competition.

Alcaraz broke Paul late in the opening set before taking control of the match, securing two breaks in the second and another early in the third. He finished strongly by saving two break points in the final game, producing a forehand volley and winner to seal victory on his first match point.

The Spaniard will next face American Ben Shelton, who powered past Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 without facing a break point. Shelton, who fired 12 aces, has been one of the tournament's standout performers and is expected to provide a major test for the defending champion.

Aryna Sabalenka also advanced to the women's quarterfinals as she continued her bid for a third consecutive US Open title. The world No. 1 defeated Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-3 and will meet Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, who edged Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

Frances Tiafoe also reached the last eight after defeating former champion Daniil Medvedev 7-6(1), 6-4, 7-6(6), setting up an all-American quarterfinal against Alex Michelsen. Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro also advanced, creating another all-American matchup in the women's draw.
