Brandon Nakashima Reaches First Masters 1000 Final in Montreal

Brandon Nakashima secured the biggest final appearance of his career after defeating rising Spanish star Rafael Jódar 7-6(3), 6-4 in the National Bank Open semifinal in Montreal.

The American produced an aggressive display from the baseline, using his powerful groundstrokes and strong serving to prevent Jódar from settling into the contest.

The opening set remained closely contested before Nakashima gained the decisive edge in the tiebreak. He then maintained his momentum in the second set, although Jódar continued to threaten before the American held his nerve during a tense final service game.

Nakashima eventually sealed victory after two hours and four minutes, earning his first Masters 1000 final appearance.

His reward is an all-American championship clash with defending champion Ben Shelton, marking the first ATP Masters 1000 final between two Americans since 2003.
