Arthur Fils Wins First ATP Masters 1000 Title in Cincinnati

Arthur Fils captured the biggest title of his career on Sunday, overcoming American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the Cincinnati final to claim his maiden ATP Masters 1000 crown.

The 22-year-old Frenchman made a fast start, breaking Tiafoe early and establishing a 3-0 advantage. Fils controlled the rallies from the baseline and remained largely untroubled on serve, closing out the opening set in just 29 minutes with his eighth ace.

Tiafoe responded strongly in the second set, taking advantage of a rise in errors from Fils. The American secured an early break and quickly moved 3-0 ahead before winning the set 6-1 to level the contest after 54 minutes.

Tiafoe then required treatment for his right hip, which has reportedly caused him problems in recent weeks. After the medical timeout, however, Fils returned with renewed intensity and dominated the deciding set.

The Frenchman broke twice to establish a commanding 4-0 lead before moving towards victory. Tiafoe saved two match points in the final game, but Fils created another opportunity with a lob, and the American ultimately sent a forehand beyond the baseline to end the 98-minute contest.

The Cincinnati triumph is Fils' first Masters 1000 championship and his most significant achievement to date. With the US Open beginning next week, the victory is also expected to lift him from 21st to a career-best 11th in the ATP rankings.

For Tiafoe, the defeat marked his second loss in the Cincinnati final. He previously finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the tournament in 2024.
