Anna Blinkova Switches Allegiance from Russia to France

Posted : 18 September 2026

Russian-born tennis player Anna Blinkova, the world No. 94, has announced that she now represents France. The 28-year-old confirmed the change on Friday after being officially naturalised as a French citizen.

“After all these years spent in France, between my city, Cannes, and the tournaments, this country has become much more than a training base: it has become my country,” Blinkova said in a post on Instagram.

She added that she was “deeply happy and proud” to be able to represent France on the world stage.

Born in Moscow, Blinkova previously represented Russia in the Billie Jean King Cup. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 34 in the world in 2023 and has won two WTA 250 singles titles on hard courts — in Cluj-Napoca in 2022 and Jiujiang in 2025.

Her change of nationality makes her France's No. 2-ranked women's singles player behind Diane Parry, who is ranked No. 30 in the world.

Blinkova is currently competing at the WTA 250 tournament in São Paulo, where she reached the quarter-finals after defeating Czech player Vendula Valdmannova 6-3, 6-0. She faces Armenian player Alina Charaeva in the last eight on Friday.

Blinkova's previous appearances for Russia in the Billie Jean King Cup mean she will not immediately be eligible to represent France in the competition unless the relevant authorities secure an exemption.
