Andrey Rublev Battles Past Felix Auger-Aliassime to Reach Qatar Open Final Against Jack Draper

Posted : 22 February 2025

Andrey Rublev secured his place in the Qatar Open final for the third time after battling past Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in a hard-fought three-set match. The fifth-seeded Russian, who won the tournament in 2020, overcame his opponent’s powerful serving to claim a 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7/5) victory in a grueling two-hour, 47-minute contest.

Despite Auger-Aliassime firing 21 aces, Rublev stayed resilient, eventually sealing the win on his fourth match point.

Rublev, who was also a finalist in Doha in 2018, acknowledged the challenge of facing one of the best servers on tour and relied on crucial moments to turn the match in his favor.

His semifinal triumph followed an impressive quarterfinal win over second seed Alex de Minaur, where he required twice as many match points to advance.

The 27-year-old, whose most recent ATP title came on clay in Madrid in May 2024, now prepares for a showdown against British eighth seed Jack Draper in Saturday’s final.

Draper earned his spot in the title match after rallying to defeat Jiri Lehecka, who had previously eliminated Carlos Alcaraz, in a 3-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-3 victory. The left-handed Brit struck 14 aces to reach his fifth career final, where he will seek his third ATP title.

While Draper has already secured the highest ranking of his career, rising from world No. 16 to at least No. 12, he will need to overcome a 3-0 head-to-head deficit against Rublev to claim the Qatar Open crown.
