Australian Open Day 10: Alcaraz, Zverev, Sabalenka and Svitolina March into Semi-Finals

Posted : 27 January 2026

Quarter-final action at the Australian Open intensified on Day 10 as the tournament edged closer to its climax in Melbourne, with top contenders asserting their authority under punishing conditions. Fans were treated to commanding performances, surprise results and off-court drama shaped by extreme heat.

In the men’s draw, world number one Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive run, overpowering Australia’s Alex de Minaur in straight sets. The Spaniard recovered from a competitive opening set before raising his level to dominate the remainder of the match, ending the home favourite’s hopes and reaching his first Australian Open semi-final. Alcaraz remains firmly on course in his bid for a maiden Melbourne title.

Alexander Zverev also secured his place in the last four after a hard-fought victory over American youngster Learner Tien. The German relied on his powerful serve and composure in key moments, edging two tight tie-break sets to seal another Grand Slam semi-final appearance.

In the women’s quarter-finals, Elina Svitolina produced one of the standout performances of the day, dismantling third seed Coco Gauff in a one-sided contest. The Ukrainian controlled proceedings from the baseline, limiting Gauff’s opportunities and advancing to her first Australian Open semi-final since returning to the tour.

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka remained in ominous form, brushing aside teenage sensation Iva Jovic. The Belarusian’s power and aggression proved too much as she cruised into the semi-finals with another emphatic win.

Day 10 was also marked by soaring temperatures in Melbourne, forcing organisers to activate the Extreme Heat Protocol. Roofs were closed on show courts and schedules adjusted, adding another layer of challenge as players battled both opponents and conditions.

With the semi-final line-ups now confirmed, the Australian Open heads into its decisive stages, promising high-quality clashes as the remaining contenders chase Grand Slam glory.
