Top seed Carlos Alcaraz and world number one rival Jannik Sinner delivered commanding performances on Friday to book their places in the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters, each securing straight-sets victories on clay.
Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at Masters 1000 level, extending his winning streak in the category to 20 matches after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half. The Italian controlled the match with strong serving and consistent baseline pressure to secure his fifth consecutive win over the Canadian.
Later on centre court, Carlos Alcaraz was equally dominant as he overpowered Alexander Bublik 6-3, 6-0 in just over an hour. After a brief early exchange of breaks in the opening set, the Spaniard took full control and won 10 straight games to close out the match in style, extending his clay-court winning streak to 16 matches.
Jannik Sinner admitted he was pleased with his improved performance, though he acknowledged there is still room to refine his serve. Despite that, he expressed satisfaction at returning to the semifinals as he continues his strong season on tour.
In the other quarterfinal, world number three Alexander Zverev overcame a tough challenge from teenage Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca, winning 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3. The German had to recover after losing momentum in the second set but raised his level in the decider to seal victory.
Carlos Alcaraz will next face the winner of the match between Alex de Minaur and Valentin Vacherot, while Sinner is set for a semifinal clash against Zverev after maintaining his strong head-to-head record against the German.
