Alcaraz Overcomes Munar to Reach Japan Open Final

Posted : 05 October 2026

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz fought back from a set down to defeat fellow Spaniard Jaume Munar 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 and book his place in the Japan Open final in Tokyo.

The world No. 3 struggled with his consistency early on and surrendered the opening set after failing to serve out at 5-4. However, Alcaraz raised his intensity in the second set, using powerful serves, aggressive returns and precise groundstrokes to turn the match around before taking complete control in the decider.

The victory continues Alcaraz's comeback from the wrist injury that kept him out for several months. The Spaniard admitted he is still working to rediscover his best level, but he remains determined to defend his Tokyo crown after reaching the US Open quarter-finals and competing at the Laver Cup following his return.

Alcaraz will face Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka in Tuesday's final after the world No. 19 defeated Monaco's Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6-2. Lehecka produced a dominant serving display, hitting 10 aces and not facing a single break point.
