Posted : 17 February 2024

The Spanish world number two dominated the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (7-1), 6-1 win, setting up a clash against Chilean third seed Nicolas Jarry. Jarry advanced to the semis after Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry retired due to injury during their quarter-final match.

Meanwhile, Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner progressed to the semi-finals of the Rotterdam Open. Sinner was leading 7-6 (7-4), 1-1 when Milos Raonic retired due to a right hip injury. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Sinner secured his 200th win on the ATP Tour.

Sinner is set to face Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the semi-finals, aiming for a potential rise to the third spot in the world rankings.

Reflecting on his win, Sinner acknowledged the challenge posed by Raonic and expressed sympathy for his opponent's injuries. In the Argentina Open, there is guaranteed to be a home finalist as the second semi-final features Facundo Diaz Acosta against Federico Coria.

Alcaraz, the clear favorite for the title, commented on his performance, recognizing the high level of play from Vavassori in challenging conditions and expressing satisfaction with his improved performance in the second set. The stage is set for thrilling semi-final matchups in both tournaments.
