Nigeria's youth table tennis team has departed for Accra, Ghana, to compete at the 2026 African Youth Table Tennis Championships, with the dual objective of winning medals and securing qualification for the Youth Olympic Games.
The contingent left the country in high spirits ahead of the continental tournament, which will feature Africa's brightest young table tennis talents competing for medals and coveted Youth Olympic qualification places.
Head coach Friday Abah expressed confidence in the team's level of preparedness, saying all travel arrangements had been successfully concluded and that the players were mentally and physically ready for the challenge ahead.
"The players and officials are highly motivated and optimistic about achieving excellent results in Ghana. We have prepared well and are determined to make Nigeria proud," Abah said before the team's departure.
The Kogi State coach appealed to Nigerians to support the team with their prayers throughout the competition, noting that such encouragement would inspire the young paddlers to give their best.
He added that the players are eager to showcase their talents on the continental stage and justify the confidence placed in them.
The 2026 African Youth Table Tennis Championships will bring together the continent's top young players, who will compete for medals, continental honours and qualification spots for the Youth Olympic Games.
