Afolashade Opawumi wins Abeokuta Club Ladies Championship title

Afolashade Opawumi concluded the year 2023 on a victorious note by winning the Ladies Championship at Abeokuta Golf Club in Ogun State, Nigeria.


The annual Abeokuta Golf Club Ladies Championship brings together lady golfers from across the country to showcase their talent and skills in the golf game at the undulating golf course located in the Oke Mosan area of the Ogun State capital.


Playing off a handicap of 14, Opawumi shot 95 and 98, with a gross of 193, 49-over par over two days, securing the 2023 championship crown and trophy in a festive atmosphere.


Reflecting on the championship, which has boosted her confidence in the game of golf, Opawumi believes it was a harbinger of many good things in the coming year, 2024, even though she least expected the victory.


“I prepared to play my normal game as a golfer, but not with the intention to win the championship because there are lots of good lady golfers who participated in the championship; however, I’m very happy I won at the end of the day.


“Becoming a champion in the last month of the year means better things ahead in 2024; hence, my ‘thank you’ goes to the organizers of the championship for the opportunity given me to participate; I’ll work on my weak points to better my performance in the next edition; everyone who participated in the championship was a winner, no loser,” she said.


Incidentally, in addition to the crown and trophy, Opawumi received tickets/vouchers for a special holiday in Akwa Ibom State and a special treat in Abeokuta.
