The 6th National Junior Tennis Championships, sponsored by the Adewale Isa Foundation, has officially served off in Lagos.
The tournament, a key fixture on Nigeria’s junior tennis calendar, began at the Tennis Court of the National Stadium, Surulere, with matches scheduled to run from Monday, August 25 to Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Chairperson of the Adewale Isa Foundation, Mrs. Sikirat Adigun, expressed her delight at the commencement of the sixth edition, noting that the championship continues to nurture and showcase the next generation of tennis stars.
“On average, we host a minimum of 200 kids from all over the country across the boys’ and girls’ U-12, U-14, and U-16 categories, as our focus is developmental tennis,” Adigun explained.
Among the rising stars is Godwin Afaramai, who impressed at last year’s edition and has since advanced to the finals of major national competitions. His progress reflects the Foundation’s commitment to discovering and supporting young talent.
This year’s edition carries a special emotional significance, as the Foundation will immortalize the late Mrs. Arinola Isa, one of its directors, whose passion and dedication to youth development remain unforgettable. In her honor, the third-place consolation prize will now be known as The Arinola Isa Consolation Prize.
“The Adewale Isa Foundation is also eternally grateful to members of the press, who have helped turn this tournament into a globally recognized event through their platforms. We encourage you to continue spreading the word about our efforts,” Adigun added.
She further reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to tennis development in Nigeria, describing the tournament as a platform to inspire excellence, instill discipline, and open doors for young players nationwide and beyond.
The Foundation also extended an open invitation to corporate organizations and partners to support the initiative, emphasizing that their involvement would help scale greater heights and create even more opportunities for aspiring athletes.
