2026 African World Cup Tickets at Stake as Top Stars Clash in Benghazi

Posted : 03 February 2026

Africa’s finest table tennis players are set to battle in Benghazi, Libya, for coveted qualification tickets to the 2026 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China.

For the first time in the sport’s history, Libya’s second-largest city will host the ITTF Africa Cup, scheduled for February 7–9, 2026, at the iconic Al-Nasr Sports Club. The landmark event represents a significant moment for table tennis on the continent and highlights Africa’s growing influence in the global game.

The stakes will be high throughout the tournament, as semifinalists in both the men’s and women’s singles events will secure automatic qualification for next month’s World Cup in Macao. With elite players converging from across Africa, the competition promises intense battles and high-level performances.

Wahid Enitan Oshodi, President of ITTF Africa, highlighted the cultural and sporting importance of the occasion, noting Libya’s enthusiasm in welcoming athletes, officials, and fans from across the continent.
“Gatherings such as this celebrate both our diversity and unity, defining what it truly means to belong to the table tennis family,” Oshodi said.

Echoing those sentiments, ITTF President Petra Sörling emphasized the expanding global presence of African table tennis. She noted that the ITTF Africa Cup has become a strong reflection of the continent’s rising influence within the international table tennis landscape.
“Through sustained efforts in competition delivery, high-performance development, and organizational capacity, African table tennis continues to strengthen its foundations and broaden its impact on the world stage,” she added.

This year’s Africa Cup carries added significance as the sport approaches its centenary. Oshodi reflected on the milestone, pointing to the 2026 World Team Championships in London as a fitting culmination of a century of progress.
“The ITTF Africa Cup provides an invaluable platform for our players and teams to sharpen their preparations, foster competitive excellence, and nurture the spirit of table tennis across the region,” he noted.

Looking ahead, Sörling—an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Member—said Africa’s role in the global sporting movement continues to expand. She highlighted major milestones on the horizon, including preparations for the first-ever Youth Olympic Games to be hosted on the African continent.

As Benghazi prepares to host the continent’s best, the 2026 ITTF Africa Cup promises not only fierce competition but also a celebration of Africa’s growing stature in world table tennis.
