2025 Ford Table Tennis Tournament Serves Off with Coaching Clinic in Lagos

The third edition of the Daniel Ford Elite Invitational Table Tennis Tournament has begun in Lagos with the opening of a two-day coaching clinic for participating players.

The clinic is currently taking place at the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation Training Centre, located inside the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. It forms a core part of the tournament’s developmental objectives.

According to the organisers, the coaching clinic is designed to equip players with essential techniques and tactical knowledge ahead of the main competition, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, December 19.

The tournament proper will be hosted at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, where players will compete for honours across various categories.

Top national coaches, led by Dotun Omoniyi, are overseeing the sessions, focusing on skill refinement, match readiness, and overall performance improvement for the athletes.

Speaking on Tuesday, the sponsor of the tournament, Yemi Edun, described the coaching clinic as a vital component of the event. He stressed that tournaments should go beyond competition by providing opportunities for players to sharpen their skills through expert guidance and mentorship.

Edun also revealed that this year’s edition introduces an Under-12 category, a move he believes will strengthen Nigeria’s table tennis development pipeline. He expressed optimism that with early talent identification and sustained investment, Nigeria could emerge as Africa’s leading table tennis nation within the next seven years.
