Nigeria's rave of the moment and tennis prodigy, Issah Yahaya, has once again stamped his authority as the next big personality in Nigeria's tennis circle, as he won the U-14 category of the 2025 CBN Junior Tennis Championship held at the Lagos Tennis Club, Onikan, Lagos.
Yahaya easily dispatched his opponent, Lagos boy Michael Joel, 6-0, 0-6, 10-5 in the boys' final.
In the boys' U-12 category, Ogoniba Excellency from Bayelsa State defeated Ogungbe Emmanuel from Ogun State, 6-3, 6-4, while Opuene Karina defeated Rasaki Mabubat 3-6, 7-5, 10-9 to lift the girls' U-12 trophy.
In the U-14 girls' category, it was a remarkable journey for the top seed and defending champion, Mofi Atilola from Mainland Tennis Club, Lagos, who outplayed Godwin Success, sending her packing with a straight-set victory of 6-1, 6-4 to retain her trophy.
Atilola blazed through the game with a 5-0 lead in the first set before her opponent, Godwin Success, pulled a game back to make it 5-1. Mofi then wrapped it up at 6-1.
The second set followed a similar pattern to the first, with Mofi unleashing wonderful backhand return strokes that left her opponent more confused, leading the set 4-0. However, Success seemed to have rediscovered her rhythm, tying the set at 4-4.
But that was as far as she could go, as Mofi decided to end the game quickly by taking the remaining points to seal the match at 6-4.
Mofi, as she is fondly called, also featured in the girls' 16 final, having been granted a wild card to play in the girls' 16 category. There, she created a major upset by defeating the top seed and defending champion, Gloria Samuel, 6-1, 6-4 in one of the semi-final matches on Friday, making it double finals for herself.
