Yurav Premlall Eyes Alfred Dunhill Links Glory After Record-Breaking Year

Yurav Premlall returns to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week with renewed confidence after a remarkable breakthrough season on the DP World Tour. The South African captured his first tour title at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship in May, winning by 14 shots in one of the most dominant performances in recent DP World Tour history.

Premlall's victory at Real Club de Golf El Prat was particularly notable because the 14-shot margin established a DP World Tour record outside the major championships. His final score of 28 under par also saw him finish just one shot short of Tiger Woods' 15-shot winning margin at the 2000 US Open.

The 2026 breakthrough has given Premlall greater belief as he returns to an Alfred Dunhill Links Championship that holds particular significance for South African golf. Branden Grace remains the only South African to have won the event, claiming the title in 2012.

Premlall also has fond memories of the tournament after coming close to the leading group during the 2024 edition. He entered the weekend only four shots off the pace before eventually finishing tied for 54th.

The unique pro-am event brings professional golfers together with sports stars and celebrities across three renowned Scottish links courses: the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Premlall will partner former South Africa rugby captain Schalk Burger Jnr this week.

The young South African said having a strong partner is particularly important in the event's format, while he enjoys the challenge presented by all three courses.

Premlall is part of a sizeable South African contingent competing this week. The country's representatives also include Casey Jarvis, Jayden Schaper, Thriston Lawrence, Branden Grace and Dean Burmester.

His breakthrough victory has already transformed his standing on the DP World Tour. Following the Catalunya triumph, Premlall climbed from 157th to 26th in the Race to Dubai rankings and earned exemption on the tour through the end of the 2028 season.

With his confidence boosted by that record-setting performance, Premlall will now look to add his name to the list of South African winners at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
