Yoon Ina Extends Women's PGA Championship Lead to Five Shots

Posted : 27 June 2026

South Korean golfer Yoon Ina strengthened her grip on the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship after carding a three-under-par 69 to take a commanding five-shot lead into the weekend at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Yoon followed her record-equalling opening-round 63 with another composed performance to reach 12-under-par 132 after 36 holes. Her first-round score matched the lowest opening round in the tournament's history and positioned her firmly at the top of the leaderboard.

The 23-year-old admitted this is the first time she has led a major championship heading into the weekend but said she is embracing the challenge rather than fearing it.

Yoon opened the second round with four birdies over her first eight holes to extend her advantage to as many as seven strokes. Although she dropped two shots on the back nine with a pair of bogeys, a late birdie ensured she remained comfortably ahead of the chasing pack.

South Korean Ryu Hae-ran produced the round of the day with a brilliant eight-under-par 64. The 2023 LPGA Rookie of the Year made eight birdies without dropping a shot to move into a share of second place on seven-under-par.

Ryu was joined in second by Kim A-lim, Canadian Brooke Henderson and Japan's Nasa Hataoka, all sitting five shots behind the tournament leader.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda remains firmly in contention despite trailing by six shots. The American posted a four-under-par 68 to reach six-under overall after overcoming a difficult finish, where she admitted she struggled with her ball striking.

Korda, who won both the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women's Open earlier this season, is attempting to become only the third player in LPGA history to win the first three major championships of a single year.

Yoon's impressive form marks another significant milestone in her rapid rise on the LPGA Tour. Now in her second full season, she has rebuilt her career following a suspension on the Korean LPGA Tour in 2022 after an incident involving the use of the wrong ball during the Korea Women's Open.

With two rounds remaining, Yoon will look to maintain her composure as she bids to capture the first major championship of her professional career.
