Yellow Greens step up preparations for Namibia Tri-Series

Posted : 04 June 2026

Nigeria’s senior men’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, have intensified preparations for the upcoming 2026 Namibia Tri-Series with a 35-man training camp currently underway in Lagos.

The camp, which began last Friday, is being supervised by newly appointed head coach and High Performance Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Stephen Mangongo, as he embarks on his first assignment with the national team.

Mangongo, who was officially unveiled last Wednesday after signing a three-year contract with the Federation, is leading a technical crew that includes former Female Yellow Greens head coach Leke Oyede and fitness coach Seye Olympio.

The Zimbabwean tactician is using the 14-day exercise to assess players and build a competitive squad ahead of the international engagements in Namibia.

Among the notable players invited to camp are national team captain Sylvester Okpe, Nigeria Super League Most Valuable Player Isaac Danladi, and Middle Belt Tigers captain Sulaimon Runsewe, who recently guided his side to the Nigeria Super League title.

Competition for places is expected to be intense, with the provisional squad set to be trimmed to 16 players before departure for Namibia.

Nigeria will participate in a T20 International Tri-Series featuring hosts Namibia, Hong Kong, and China before engaging Namibia in a three-match One-Day International series.

The Namibia Tri-Series is scheduled to take place from June 18 to 29 at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek, offering the Yellow Greens an important opportunity to test their strength against quality opposition as they continue their development on the international stage.

The intensive training camp in Lagos marks a crucial period for the national team as players strive to secure their spots in the final squad. With Stephen Mangongo driving a disciplined preparation strategy, the upcoming fixtures in Windhoek will serve as a definitive benchmark for the team's growth. Nigerian cricket fans can look forward to a highly determined Yellow Greens side ready to make its mark on the international scene.
