Nigeria’s women’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, recorded their first win at the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s Tournament in Rwanda with a two-wicket victory over Tanzania.
The team had previously suffered losses to Zimbabwe and Brazil in their first two matches of the tournament.
In the match played at the Gahanga Cricket Oval, Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat first.
Nigeria’s bowlers put on a disciplined performance, restricting the Tanzanian side to 82 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
In response, Nigeria chased down the target, scoring 83 runs for the loss of eight wickets within their allotted 20 overs, thereby winning the match by two wickets.
The Yellow Greens will next face host nation Rwanda on Friday in the ongoing nine-nation tournament.
The annual Kwibuka Tournament is held in memory of the victims of the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
