Xander Schauffele Embraces Veteran Status as Favourite at the Valspar Championship

Xander Schauffele enters the 2026 Valspar Championship as the betting favourite, largely because he is the highest‑ranked player in the field at No. 7 in the world and with stars like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy taking the week off.

Despite the expectations that come with his position on the odds board, Schauffele insists he doesn’t feel the pressure that typically accompanies being a favourite on the PGA Tour these days.

Instead, the 32‑year‑old is more attuned to the number of years he’s spent on tour and the physical toll that comes with a long career. Now in his 10th full season and marking his 209th career start, he jokes about feeling like an “old guy” out here, a sentiment he shared with reporters at the Innisbrook Resort ahead of the event.

Having already secured two major titles in 2024 and established himself as one of the tour’s consistent performers, Schauffele’s outlook appears grounded in experience rather than ranking.

Beyond individual performances, the PGA Tour itself is undergoing changes under new CEO Brian Rolapp, with discussions about shifting away from limited‑field, no‑cut formats that currently define signature events. Schauffele has acknowledged these shifts, reflecting on how the tour has evolved since his early days as a rookie in 2017.
