Wyndham Clark Fends Off Rory McIlroy to Win BMW Championship

Wyndham Clark produced a dramatic late surge to win the BMW Championship on Sunday, overcoming a five-shot advantage that had disappeared before closing with three consecutive birdies.

Clark began the final round at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis with a sizeable lead, but the cushion quickly evaporated. A three-putt bogey at the opening hole, followed by further dropped shots, allowed Rory McIlroy and the chasing pack to move within striking distance.

McIlroy steadily applied pressure and eventually drew level with Clark after making birdie at the 11th. The Northern Irishman had overturned the entire five-shot deficit in just 11 holes, setting up a tense finish between the two players.

Clark, however, found another gear when it mattered most. After remaining without a birdie for much of the round, he converted a putt from around 15 feet at the par-three 16th to regain the outright lead. (

The decisive moment came at the 17th. McIlroy found trouble in two bunkers and made bogey, while Clark responded with another birdie to extend his advantage. Clark then completed the victory in style, sinking a 17-foot birdie putt at the 18th for three straight birdies and an even-par 70.

Clark finished the tournament at 17-under par, three shots ahead of Patrick Cantlay. The victory was his third PGA Tour title of 2026 and further strengthened his case as one of the season's standout players.

Cantlay closed with three consecutive birdies to finish second at 14-under and secure his place in next week's Tour Championship. McIlroy ended the tournament alone in third at 13-under, while Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa and Gary Woodland shared fourth.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler recovered from his difficult opening round to finish tied for 12th at seven-under.
