Wout van Aert Wins Heat-Shortened Vuelta Stage 15 in Córdoba

Wout van Aert claimed his second stage victory of the 2026 Vuelta a España after outsprinting a five-rider breakaway in Córdoba on Sunday. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider beat Alessandro Romele and Thibau Nys in a reduced 110.2km stage that was shortened because of extreme heat in southern Spain.

The stage was originally scheduled to cover 189.7km from Palma del Río to Córdoba, but organisers activated the extreme-weather protocol and removed almost 80km from the route as temperatures climbed above 40°C. Despite the shorter distance, the race was fiercely contested, with repeated attacks before Van Aert, Romele, Nys, Ramses Debruyne and Andreas Leknessund formed the decisive five-man move.

Van Aert controlled the final sprint and crossed the finish line in 2:35:00, securing his fifth Vuelta stage victory of his career. The Belgian had also won earlier in this year's race, making the Córdoba triumph his second victory in three days.

There was no change at the top of the general classification, with Enric Mas safely finishing with the main group. The Movistar rider retains a 2:06 advantage over Felix Gall, while four-time champion Primož Roglič sits third at 2:10 behind Mas.

The riders now have a rest day before Stage 16 on Tuesday, when the race resumes with a 181.1km route from Cortegana to La Rábida and Palos de la Frontera. The stage is expected to provide another opportunity for the sprinters as the Vuelta enters its final week.
