The Women’s Rugby World Cup semifinals will feature the world’s top four teams after an action-packed quarterfinal weekend. France mounted an impressive second-half comeback on Sunday, overturning a 13–0 halftime deficit to edge Ireland 18–13 in Exeter. A spectacular length-of-the-field try from Joanna Grisez in the 67th minute sealed the victory, sending Les Bleues into the last four.
Ireland, who had failed to qualify for the last World Cup, came agonizingly close to a famous upset. Their 35-phase attack just before halftime was denied by resilient French defending, and they ultimately left the pitch heartbroken despite a spirited performance.
Later in Bristol, world No. 1 England showcased their dominance with a 40–8 victory over Scotland. The Red Roses, unbeaten since the 2022 World Cup final, extended their winning streak to 31 consecutive tests, breaking their own record. Six tries, including Abby Dow’s 50th in test rugby, powered England into the semifinals, where they will once again face familiar rivals France.
Elsewhere, New Zealand and Canada both cruised into the last four. The Black Ferns dispatched South Africa 46–17, while Canada overpowered Australia 46–5. The two sides will now meet in Bristol on Friday in what promises to be a thrilling semifinal clash.
England, who last won the World Cup in 2014, are determined to end their run of five defeats in the last six finals against New Zealand. With more than 80,000 fans expected at Twickenham for the September 27 final, anticipation is building for what could be a historic conclusion to the tournament.
